Rhinoplasty is one of the most common types of plastic surgery، commonly known as a "nose job،" which is used to change the shape of your nose by correcting bone or cartilage.

Reasons for Rhinoplasty

People perform rhinoplasty to correct breathing problems or repair the nose after an injury or that they are not satisfied with the appearance of their nose.

The possible changes that your surgeon can make to your nose through rhinoplasty include:

Change in size
Smooth the bridge of the nose
Changing the shape of the tip of the nose
Narrowing the nostrils

If the goal of rhinoplasty is to improve your appearance until your health is complete, you should wait until the nasal bone is fully developed.This is about 16 years for girls and at least 17 for boys at least.

Risks of Rhinoplasty

All surgeries carry risks, including infection, bleeding, and a bad reaction to anesthesia.

Rhinoplasty may also increase the risks of breathing problems, numbness and asymmetry of the nose.

Sometimes patients are not happy with their surgery.If you want to have a second surgery, you will have to wait until your nose heals before re-surgery. This may take up to a year.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty can be performed in a hospital, doctor's office or an outpatient surgical center. Your doctor uses local or general anesthesia.

If you are numb or unconscious, your surgeon will make cuts between or inside your nostrils. They separate your skin from cartilage or bone and then begin to deform. If your new nose requires a small amount of extra cartilage, your doctor may remove some cartilage from your ear.

Surgery usually takes between 1 and 3 hours, which takes longer if the surgery is complex.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty

After surgery, your doctor may place a plastic splint on your nose. The splint helps your nose maintain its good shape. They may also place the splint inside your nostrils to stabilize your nostrils, which are the part between your nostrils.

You will be monitored in the recovery room for several hours and if all is well، you will be discharged the same day. If your surgery is a complicated procedure, you will be in the hospital for 1 or 2 days.

You may have bleeding for several days after surgery when the pad under your nose absorbs blood.

Rhinoplasty can affect the area around your eyes and you may have numbness, swelling or discoloration around your eyelids for a few weeks. To reduce discoloration and swelling, you can use ice compresses.

Rhinoplasty Results

Although rhinoplasty is a relatively safe and easy procedure, it can take some time to recover from it. The tip of your nose is particularly sensitive and can remain numb and swollen for months. It may improve within a few weeks, but some effects may last for months. A full year may pass before you can fully understand the final outcome of your surgery.
