As you know, CTS surgery is performed by the team of surgeons specializing in Sepid Surgery Center to relieve you from pain and tingling and prevent the development or progression of weakness in the muscles of the hand. Usually there is no need for general anesthesia and with local anesthesia this short operation can be done. But after surgery, proper care of the hand that has undergone surgery is very important to return to the right and natural condition. The surgical incision is usually small and in the wrist area usually within two to three days proper coverage is made on the incision site by the body. But for complete repair, it usually takes two weeks to eat properly, avoid smoking, control blood sugar in diabetic patients, resting hands and keeping it clean are effective in preventing tissue repair disorders. Usually non-absorbable stitches are used، which should be removed after two weeks. Symptoms of CTS are pain and numbness of the hands. This syndrome is caused by a nerve called the median nerve in the wrist. Given that the median nerve is responsible for the thumb sensation and half a finger towards the thumb. Any pressure on this nerve will cause numbness and weakness of the muscles of the fingers. The patient has pain in the wrist or other parts of the upper extremity with the tingling and sleepiness. The sensation of pain and tingling and sleepiness that gradually begins usually involves the finger, index and middle finger. At the beginning of the disease, pain and tingling and sleepiness occur at night and wake the patient, but with the progress of the disease during the day and during activities, it will show its symptoms, and as the disease progresses, the patient feels weak in his hands.
Postoperative care of CTS or carpal tunnel syndrome
Keep the area of the wound dry.
If you feel any pain or numbness after surgery, consult your doctor.
3. To reduce hand pain and swelling, apply ice compress on the operated area for up to 48 hours after surgery.
4. Avoid overheating or cooling of the treated area.
5. Dressing will not open until the doctor visits again.
6. Do not lift heavy objects with the operated hand for some time after surgery.
For the first 7 to 24 hours after surgery, place the operated hand at a higher level than the heart.
24 hours after surgery, the patient can perform daily activities without using his or her surgical hand.
9. Keep your wrist steady until full recovery, which is about 2 weeks after surgery, but you should not neglect moving your fingers, elbows and shoulders, because prolonged joint immobility can cause stiffness of the joints, which is very common and affects 15 to 30 percent of patients.
10- Increase redness and swelling at the incision site, discharge of pus from the wound, bad odor of the wound, fever and increase in pain to the doctor immediately.
After surgery, one of the important steps to achieve a full recovery as soon as possible is physical therapy.
What is the success rate of CTS?
Although the outcome of surgery depends on the skill of the physician and the patient's physical condition, in the surgical center with a small incision, CTS surgery is more than ninety-five percent successful, but full recovery may take several months. Of course, in most cases, only a few days after surgery, patients feel light in their hands, and according to the statistics shown from the patients operated in the clinic of Sepid Surgery Center, all have had full satisfaction with the operation and recovery after the operation.
What is the cause of movement restriction and postoperative pain after CTS?
Feeling pain and some limitations of movement after surgery is normal.Patients should be patient until full recovery. Physical therapy, gentle exercise and lukewarm water massage can reduce postoperative swelling.
Daily activities after carpal surgery or CTS:
It is best to place your hand on a pillow above your body for the first 24 hours and rest to reduce the pain and swelling. You can then resume daily activities provided you do not use the surgical hand. Remaining still and positioning it slightly backwards will help speed up the tissue repair process.
